Andrew Syed is Manager of Environmental and Social Responsibility for Newmont Mining Corp. Prior to joining Newmont, he worked as a grass-roots development professional and human rights researcher in the nongovernmental organization sector. He has experience working with communities in more than 50 countries around the world, from conflict zones in Afghanistan and the Balkans to urban slum communities in Brazil, Kenya and Thailand. His current role with Newmont allows him to explore the role of the corporate extractive sector in promoting human rights and sustainable development in the pursuit of shared value for local communities.

Mr. Syed earned a master's degree in International Development and Human Rights from the University of Denver.
