David Newman, Head of EHS and Sustainability; EMD Millipore

David Newman is Head of EHS and Sustainability for EMD Millipore, where he leads the company's Sustainability, Properties and Corporate Facilities functions. EMD Millipore provides products for life sciences research, development, scale-up and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Mr. Newman's responsibilities include starting and leading the company's corporate Sustainability initiative, which is sponsored by the CEO. Since 2007, the company has implemented savings projects including a 15 percent reduction in energy usage, installation of an on-site 310KW solar system, changeover to a hybrid vehicle fleet and product design for sustainability programs. Prior to joining Millipore in 2003, Mr. Newman worked in EHS management consulting, for a multi-national Fortune 100 manufacturing firm. He has master's degrees in Public Health and Industrial Environmental Management. In addition to being a CHMM and Certified Business Continuity Planner, he is also a certified EMT and Firefighter.
