Verne Shortell, Executive Director of Environmental Business; NRG Energy Inc.

 

Verne Shortell

Verne Shortell is NRG’s Executive Director of Environmental Business. In this position, she oversees environmental compliance programs and permitting at NRG and supports the Company’s strategic decisions regarding environmental issues, including climate change. Verne is a strong advocate for the environment, spearheading NRG’s sustainability program, econrg. She works closely with the Executive Team to develop Company positions regarding environmental regulation and legislation, evaluate the effectiveness of strategic opportunities with respect to the environment and drive environmental strategies into operations.

 

Verne graduated with a degree in chemistry from Colgate University with graduate work in environmental engineering at Northeastern University.

 

The good stuff: Verne is a firm believer in environmental stewardship and has been recycling since birth. She is thrilled that the corporate world has decided to join her in the seeking ways to eliminate waste, protect our natural resources and encourage others to do the same.
